The National Assembly for Wales has announced that it is establishing a Welsh Youth Parliament.
Following a Wales wide consultation, which received over 5000 responses, the youth parliament will be established with the following criteria:
- Members will be chosen by election?
- Members will be aged between 11 and 18?
- Members will be elected for two years
- The parliament will be independent from all political parties.
The new parliament will have 60 members and will be elected in November 2018.
Announcing the news, National Assembly for Wales’ Presiding Officer (Llywydd), Elin Jones said:
‘We will continue to work in partnership with young people and youth organisations from across Wales to create a body led by young people that takes everything you told us into consideration.’
